About Tetris

Tetris is a quick mindless game that's perfect to zone out, you just place blocks and try to clear rows.

As you progress the game does speed up and become more difficult but overall is a really simple game.

How to Play Tetris

Pieces fall from the top of the well one at a time. Slide them left and right, rotate them, and drop them so they lock together without leaving holes. Fill a full horizontal row and it disappears — that's a line clear, and that's how you score.

Every ten lines the level goes up and the pieces fall faster. The game ends when the stack reaches the top, so the whole thing is a fight to keep your stack low while the speed climbs.

Thoughts

I love Tetris, it's one of the most competitive games and looks so cool when you are going fast.

I've gotten to the highest speed you can get in the game and it is very challenging.

Super easy to zone out and isn't very hard to get really good at it, so I definitely recommend.

Tips & Strategies

  1. You just have to find your own strategies, there's not really a best way to play. Just don't leave blank spaces behind and try to clear stuff as you go.
  2. Keep the stack flat. A jagged surface leaves holes that take forever to dig back out.
  3. Leave one column open on the edge and save the long I-piece for it — four lines at once is worth way more than four singles.
  4. Watch the next-piece preview and decide where it's going before it appears, not after.
  5. When the speed gets scary, stop being fancy. Just place pieces cleanly and survive — the points come from staying alive.

Tetris FAQ

How does scoring work in Tetris?

You get points for every line cleared, and clearing several lines with one piece pays far more than clearing them one at a time. A four-line clear (a Tetris) is the big one. Higher levels multiply everything.

What is the fastest way to get better at Tetris?

Play for a flat stack and no holes first, speed second. Once clean stacking is automatic, speed takes care of itself.

Does the game get faster?

Yes — every ten lines the level goes up and the pieces drop quicker, all the way up to a speed where they basically appear at the bottom.

Can I play Tetris on my phone?

This version needs a keyboard, so it's really a laptop or desktop game.
